Hurrah for “Leap Seconds”!

Posted by Jonathan at 19:00:08 UTC on the 31st of December, 2005

The little round piece of rock in space we call Earth trundles full-circle around the Sun once again with those from UTC+14 (Republic of Kiribati & the Line Islands) to UTC+5 (Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, and so on) having already welcomed in the year 2006! Don’t forget that a Leap Second is to be inserted at the end of 2005, so the countdown for tonight will actually go like this:

  • 23:59:57, 31st December 2005
  • 23:59:58, 31st December 2005
  • 23:59:59, 31st December 2005
  • 23:59:60, 31st December 2005
  • 00:00:00, 1st January 2006

Enjoy your leap second for an extra long snog with the nearest member of the opposite sex, pet animal, fluffy plush toy, the laptop or the back of your weaker hand and onwards to 2006! :D

PS: For those at home surfing the Internet and in dire need of gasms, the Photogasm™ in Reykjavík and Icelandic Photogasm™ from my World Domination 2005 gallery, should keep you occupied and give that warm, fuzzy feeling somewhere around your knickers. ;)

  7. Unfortunately there were other party guests we had to wish a happy New Year. Or the kiss would have ended somewhere else. ;)
